God, FINALLY an entry.

elsajeniSo. Am kinda tired, but, on the bright side, am totally finished with Chinese and almost totally finished with Archaeological Field Techniques (depending, of course, on how much revision our chapter needs -- probably not much). Now all I have to do is:
1) Finish reading The Sword of Rhiannon and write a paper about it.
2) Take my English final.
3) Possibly revise chapter, maybe. But probably not, really.
4) ... Pack. Shit. I have way too much crap.
Also, I had to select a random book for English this weekend, and I picked (largely at random) a pulp novel from 1951 called Finistere. I did not expect it to be absorbing. Except it totally was, and you should expect an entry on it soon, because its take on homosexuality really, really intrigues me. (Super-brief summary: Boy moves to France, fucks P.E. coach, is shunned by family, jumps off cliff. But it's more complicated than that, I swear.) My one regret with regard to this assignment is that I wasn't able to find The World Without Men, a novel about an entire planet of lesbians that, predictably, ends in ruin and horrors and tragedy, which was supposedly written in reaction to... the availability of birth control. Because birth control totally turns you into a lesbian. ... Um. Huh?
Also, I've been trying to get back on track with Azaleas. The final version of it, when there eventually is one, will bear very little resemblance to the original draft. Which is a good thing, because the original draft sucks. It is stupid in many, many ways. The death scene is shit and needs to be completely thrown out and redone, there are a whole lot of characters who seem to serve exactly the same purpose, and the system of symbolism appears to have been devised by making a big Chart O' Symbols, throwing a very angry armadillo onto it, and writing down the symbols in the order it stepped on them. Right now I'm working on the issue of the characters. I realized how little I knew about them and how completely random a lot of their reactions read as, so I'm trying to fix that by thinking about them until I realize what the hell I'm doing. So far I've figured out two of them, and I'm pretty close to a third. So, yay me.
