Recent (ish) fics roundup

Written for Multifandom Tropefest 2018. This is a new exchange, I think, and I really like the concept of it -- matching on both a relationship and a trope -- though I can't imagine what a pain matching is.
Walking downstream didn't work out that great for Face and Ton in canon; let's see what happens if we try going the other way...
That One-Time Thing
For the Star Wars Rare Pairs Exchange 2018. This was the second exchange in a row where I got matched to the same person, and this time she had some excellent thoughts about Wedge, Leia, and Wedge and Leia. I've always liked their friendship in the EU novels, and I really enjoyed writing them together.
A Binding Braid
Written for Chocolate Box 2019 -- a surprise pairing that I got really into! I had a great time revisiting an old fandom I don't spend much time in anymore, and taking a potentially-silly trope seriously as a way to bring Aragorn and Boromir's political connection and personal relationship together and force them to deal with both at once.
wings, wheels, fire
An extra treat for Chocolate Box, that I finished exactly as work reveals were going live. I was so excited to see someone else offering or requesting Lucha Underground for once, and specifically prompting the best trope in the world, Actual Literal Angel Angelico -- this is tagged "turn the supernatural nonsense up to eleven," which is a fair summary of my approach to Lucha Underground in general, really.
"Hey," Ton says, and then a little louder, "Hey. What is this, the scenic route? You're going the wrong way."
"I'm going back towards your fighter," Face calls back over his shoulder. "We've got options there. And the good news is, they shouldn't be looking for us where they've already searched."
"This is a stupid plan."
"Come up here and stop me, then," Face says, unperturbed, and keeps walking.

That One-Time Thing
It's a one-time thing.
Of course, it's a one-time thing that's happened three times now.
That's beside the point, Wedge tells himself firmly, and shuts the conference door behind them.

A Binding Braid
"The gwelaith -- an ancient law of Gondor. What is it in the common tongue?"
"Binding with rope?" Estel translates doubtfully -- his best guess, though it doesn't make much sense.
"Joining as two ropes, like a braid," Elrond corrects. "Joining in a way that strengthens. That was its purpose -- to tie the house of the king to the house of his steward, and strengthen both offices by the connection."
***
It is an ancient law, that the king of Gondor must marry a member of the steward's house. If Aragorn is lucky, maybe it will turn out to be so ancient that everyone's forgotten about it...

wings, wheels, fire
Catrina's doing some kind of creepy magical bullshit with the stone again, holding it up in her free hand as she leans in to lick up the side of Angelico's face, sparks crackling on its surface, and the lights flicker again--
There's a sound like a thunderclap, and a flash of light -- more than a flash; it's blinding, overwhelming...
