So, I have now gone to the dentist twice in two days, and I have decided that overall my dentist is not really so bad as I have generally suspected him of being.

See, here is my usual problem with the dentist. I have four wisdom teeth, all fully grown in, perfectly functional, and (with the minor exception of the cavity that I just got filled in one of them) perfectly healthy. Every time I go to the dentist, he tells me they should come out, because "otherwise they might cause problems later on". I argue that, if they cause problems later on, he can take them out then, and until such time as they start causing problems, I will pass on the unnecessary surgery, thanks.

Yesterday's appointment marks the first time ever that he has not tried to steal my teeth. I consider this a substantial improvement.

Also, for once, the dental hygienist did not stab me really hard in the gum, then look at me reproachfully because I bled from the STAB WOUND, which I feel is noticeably distinct from the kind of gum bleeding that the dentist tries to discourage.

Also also, now I have my first ever visible filling, because for some reason this one had to be silver instead of tooth-colored.

When I was shadowing my dentist this past summer, I heard her tell a patient that she should get her wisdom teeth pulled out now (versus later) because as they're so far back, they can cause some irritation and other stuff to the sides of your mouth. She then said that prolonged irritation/rubbing/whatever to the area could eventually lead to cancer. :x;;;
