May. 26th, 2003 09:10 pmI had a startlingly nice evening out with my cousins tonight. Really, startling. We went to a movie - I was hoping for X2, since I saw the previous one with them and had an excellent time stealing their popcorn and making sarcastic remarks to the cleverest of them (who is, regrettably, a full 3 years younger than me, or we'd be utterly inseparable), but instead we ended up seeing the 3-D Imax Ghosts of the Abyss, which is really quite slow considering that it's about such a high-tension activity as exploring the wreck of the Titanic. Then we ate dinner, which was tolerable, and the two younger boys and I adjourned to the arcade while my mom and aunt talked schools and my dad and Joel talked baseball (and, inexplicably, rugby). And may I just note that Joel has suddenly turned into an actual man, as in, an adult male? It's really disconcerting considering that I can clearly remember days when his favorite activity in life was throwing Tonka trucks at his brothers. Anyway, Sean (the clever one) and I backseat-drove while Kyle (the youngest) played racing games and ran into buildings a lot but somehow came in first place anyway and won a free round, and then we took off to home.
Here's the really weirdly pleasant part. While we'd been eating, it had started raining pretty hard, and outside, you could really smell the rain - someone told me once that what you're actually smelling there is ozone, which is a little creepy, but I don't believe them and therefore enjoy it anyway. I figured, hey, a little rain won't kill me, and opted to run to the car with my dad rather than cowering in the small dry space outside the restaurant with my mom. That was the fun part of my evening.
