So, today I finished Coraline and managed to count to ten in Chinese without sounding like a complete idiot and wrote a poem that I don't particularly like but that I suspect my English teacher will think is just fabulous. (Why do so many English teachers have such bad taste in poetry? Look, just because it doesn't have any punctuation doesn't necessarily mean it's sophisticated.) Also played in jazz band and was simply fucking amazed because we sound like an actual ensemble. Also did lots of harp practice and will have terrible blisters tomorrow.
Right. Cruise. Have about 2 minutes to wrap up this entry before my mother starts screaming to get off the phone line, so will try to be brief. Roomed with Katy, Laura, and Megan. Maddening, lots of arguing at 3 in the morning because of noisy people. Fun, though. Sang karaoke a lot, made ass of self in public on multiple occasions. Went kayaking in Key West, was utterly smitten by guide largely because he was long-haired and shirtless and attractively tanned and Czech and could paddle a kayak in a straight line while standing up without falling over, then noticed that he was wearing a wedding ring and sulked for the rest of the trip, or rather, until he passed around a small jellyfish for us to touch, at which point I stopped sulking and started trying to avoid being handed a jellyfish. Then went shopping and bought a necklace for Dana and a horrible Hawaiian shirt for me (orange, purple flowers, overall terrible). On to Grand Cayman; went snorkeling with stingrays and was awestruck. Held a stingray. Kissed a stingray, too, which allegedly brings 7 years' good luck. Too cool. Once again went shopping afterward; bought a present for another friend and a tiny stingray plushie and a shell pendant for me. On to Cozumel; looked at Mayan ruins and then went swimming. Enjoyed the swimming more, although the ruins were of course quite nifty - preference of swimming mainly due to extremely hot weather, quite a bit worse than it is here at the moment. Swam through a tunnel in a rock, which I thought was quite cool and somewhat daring and therefore something I should try doing. Bought a T-shirt. Back on ship; more karaoke; met a cute boy at karaoke but regrettably discovered that he was actively attempting to avoid obtaining a girlfriend. Went through rough water in the wake of a tropical storm and walked into things a lot due to swaying of boat. Got off boat. Started school.
Must go now; mother has started to screech. Good night. Tomorrow (or soon, anyway): road trip entry.
