So, I know this happened a while ago, but I've just remembered that I wanted to write about it -- I took my cousins Carissa and Sean and Alex to the Downtown Aquarium a couple weeks ago. It was the first time I'd been there, so of course I was very excited and wanted to go on all the rides (because I am, you see, not very mature), especially the train that goes through the tunnel in the shark tank.
So here we are, on the train, and there's a recorded tour guide telling us about the sharks we're looking at and so on and so forth. And suddenly, the recorded tour guide says something like, "Hey, did you hear about the great white that escaped from the aquarium in the last flood?" and every passenger above the age of seven perks up in expectation of soon seeing a horrible fake shark.
We were not disappointed. It's the worst fake shark I've ever seen, and I've seen a surprising number of bad fake sharks. (I've been to a lot of amusement parks. Plus, I've seen most of the Jaws movies.) Partly because it is just a head, and the water that it's set in is clear enough that you can see where the head is bolted to a little metal platform. My cousin Alex said, loudly, in a tone of voice that indicated that he felt cheated, "That was a fake shark!"
Alex is seven and, quite frankly, not always totally up to speed on what's going on around him. If he realized it was a fake shark, it needs some serious work.
