As it turns out, all of my homework problems for math are insane and ridiculous and take 318571 years to solve, and yet, once you've beat them into submission, turn out to be depressingly easy. Which... boo. I mean, if they're going to take that much effort, they could at least have the decency to involve hard math rather than just being obnoxious trick questions.

Anyway, I've done 5 of the 12 problems I have to do, and it's due tomorrow at 5. That means I can spend part of tonight on the reading for archaeology tomorrow, the reading for English on Wednesday, and the homework for Chinese on Wednesday. Yay!*

You know, it occurred to me over winter break that my life is pretty much going perfectly at the moment. I hesitate to call attention to it for fear of jinxing it, but... wow. I honestly don't think my life has ever been this good before. (I mean, unless you count Simon's Rock, which, y'know, 3 weeks. Probably doesn't really count.)

*Using a specialized definition under which "Yay!" means "Oh joy, I get to do homework until one in the morning."

Yeah, but it's hardly the 3rd week of classes. I feel like I should make an effort, at least.

... I'm not going to. But I feel like I should.

the thing is, it's not even likes he implies that you should have been reading. it's only outlined on the syllabus, but he never mentions it in class. his lectures with his wonderful keywords perfectly cover all the material you will need to know, not only to do well on the tests, but also to fully understand the subject. i'm not telling you to slack off, it's more that the class is complete with only the lectures.

I'm so happy that I've helped to make you so happy. I love you so much, my beautiful nerdy princess.

I'm really, honestly touched that you even briefly considered Simon's Rock one of the happiest times in your life. Not that I was solely responsible for this. But I'd like to think I helped.

Simon's Rock and Now are happy for a lot of the same reasons -- a certain measure of independence, classes and work I enjoy, exactly the right balance of hijinx to seriousness (you know I'd almost forgotten about climbing through someone's window to steal his hair gel until just now?), and the entire mess surrounded by incredible friends. Which, y'know, you. Your contribution was no small one. The last night at Simon's Rock was definitely one of the best of my life, and, as you may recall, I spent most of that night hanging out with you.

... um. This is all, like, schmoopy. It makes me feel all girly and weird. So I shall lower the tone. Penis!

It was definitely among the happiest in my life, too. The Simon's Rock list-serve may be defunct, and I may not have kept in touch with many people, but damnit I did keep in touch with you. And that's something, isn't it?
