The Alexandria Beetles game was very exciting, although they tragically lost when the Mankato Moon Dogs unexpectedly scored four runs in the longest ninth inning ever. Key points that I especially enjoyed:

1. The single worst rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner I have ever heard, performed by three local teenaged girls and therefore applauded highly anyway.
2. The single best rendition of Take Me Out To The Ball Game I have ever heard, performed by Bernice, who was extremely drunk. We made fun of Bernice for the rest of the game, mostly on the grounds that, although we're not sure what lyrics she was singing most of the time, they were clearly not the regulation lyrics, but overall we liked her. "Heh. This seventh-inning stretch brought to you by the BEER ONLY line at the concession stand."
3. The bat spin. BAT SPIN, PEOPLE. Ten middle-aged men who have been hanging out with Bernice at the BEER ONLY line; ten baseball bats; ten rapid turns around the bat; one race to home plate; no winners, except for the audience and possibly America's Funniest Home Videos.
4. At one point, a full Powerade bottle clattered down the stairs near me, quickly followed by a boy's voice shouting "I'll get it, guys, I'll get it," quickly followed by a twelve- or thirteen-year-old boy. He retrieved the Powerade and said something rather incoherent to the usher standing nearby -- along the lines of "Hi! I'm just going to pick this up and... pick... this up. And go back up there." It probably goes without saying that the usher in question was a beautiful sixteen-ish-year-old girl. Also, I'm pretty sure he threw that Powerade down the stairs as a pretext to get himself within ten feet of her.

Announcer: "The crowd is wild tonight!"
My Mom: "... Not... really."
Me: "No. The crowd is... Minnesotan. They're calm people."
My Mom: "Well, except Bernice."
Me: "Hee."
