92 Useless Facts About Me: The Beginning
Sep. 4th, 2006 11:41 pmSo, seen the interests meme, like
libbyelf did? I did a meme like this a long time ago (well, "long" being relative -- a year or two, maybe?), but I've changed up my interests list since then, and I kind of feel like looking at them again.
Instead of just looking at every 5th or 7th or whateverth interest, though, as that meme asks you to do, I'd like to look at all of them. I have 92 interests listed, so let's call it 92 Useless Facts About Me: An Ongoing Series. Here are the first five.
1. Agnostic Deism
Although it took me a long while to figure out what in the hell, exactly, I believed as far as religion goes, probably partly because I was raised Unitarian, this is what I eventually hit on in the tenth grade. I continue to consider myself agnostic; I believe that there may or may not be a God/Creator/other form of deity, but that overall, whether there is or not, there is no way that I can ever personally know. However, if there is a God/Creator/etc., I know exactly what I believe about him/her/it/them: I am a deist, and believe that, although God/Creator/etc. had a personal hand in the setting up of the universe, he/she/it/they is no longer an active participant in the day-to-day running of the thing. Thus, agnostic deism. Still zero other people listing this as an interest.
2. Alan Dean Foster
Various people and communities have this guy listed, although, as far as I can make out, not for the same reasons I do (there seem to be an odd number of furries, which worries me a little). My main interest in him is because he wrote what I believe was the first published part of the Star Wars Extended Universe, Splinter of the Mind's Eye. This book was written prior to the release of The Empire Strikes Back, which is why, in it, Luke Skywalker kills Darth Vader and then marries Princess Leia. It is my very favorite book in the legitimately-published-fanfic genre ever.
3. And I Love Her
This is the title of a Beatles song, which I think is probably my favorite song overall (although admittedly I vacillate on that point), but definitely my favorite love song. There is only one other person who lists it as an interest, probably because it's a little over-specific for how the "interests" list was really intended to be used.
4. Anxiety Disorders
Irritatingly, I have a nice pile of these. I am, overall, a little bit broken brain-wise. As such, of course I'm interested in the various things amiss in my head. I've basically gone it alone with regard to these problems for a long time, and therefore have done a lot of looking into them and trying to figure out how they work and how to make them less of a pain; only now am I actually seeing a therapist who's having some effect, that being the biofeedback work that I've posted about a few times. Needless to say, about three million people list this as an interest (which, for a site with only two million members, is pretty impressive).
5. Astrotheism
A fancy word for "I look at space and can't help thinking there's something actively godlike about the construction of the whole mess". There used to be a community by this name, which is where I got the word in the first place. I guess it's defunct now. A handful of other people list this as an interest; I wonder if some of them are the ones who were in that community.
