Feb. 13th, 2007 02:59 pmAll right, so, before I get to the stuff I said I wanted to post about, a minor point. I'm sure pretty much everything that can be said about crazy-ass astronauts in diapers has been said, but to my knowledge nobody has pointed out this exciting feature of the news commentary: Larry King had Buzz Aldrin on, apparently as an expert on... astronauts? or something, and asked him, "Now, did you know anyone in the space program who was a little, uh... a little nuts?"
How is it that no one has noticed how fantastic a combination of interviewee and question that is? See, because of my grandfather being an engineer at NASA, my mom, growing up, knew the Aldrin family pretty well; I've also known a few other people who have had personal contact with Buzz Aldrin, for various reasons. And, to put it politely, he is a little on the peculiar -- no, forget politeness, he's more or less batshit insane.
So, actually, he's a pretty good expert to bring in on this one. "Mr. Aldrin, we understand you have some personal experience with batshit insane astronauts..."
