Betsy feels un-American

Is it just me or is the 4th of July the wrong day to suddenly have an attack of un-Americanness? Or perhaps it's not that I feel more un-American than usual, perhaps it's got more to do with the vile parade I just marched in. Playing the CYMBALS. I am a musician, I deserve better than this. But no, I get to be a ridiculously overqualified cymbal player. And just to add to the annoyance, I did not learn until last night that I was going to be playing the cymbals. Grr.
I want Jell-O. (No, that is not as random as it sounds. I just finished mixing up some strawberry Jell-O and put it in the fridge to cool. So I can't have any for about 3 hours.)
Hmm, American flag socks. Satisfy parents by appearing to be patriotic, yet still get the opportunity to walk on the flag. Whoever thought up the idea of flag-themed socks was brilliant. (Why am I in such an anti-American mood today?)
By the way, there were some Boy Scouts in the parade with us and one of them looked unsettlingly like a younger version of Ram. I am still slightly troubled by this. (Also one of them was an evil guy who I went to middle school with. Very, very evil, therefore I was highly amused to see him in a Boy Scout uniform.)
Augh. What is wrong with my headphones? Why am I only hearing people babble politely in Japanese in one ear? Or is it the tape player that has something wrong with it? (I am attempting to learn extremely minimal Japanese from tapes. It is not working. So far all I can say is "yes" and "no.")
