My vibraphone is fixed! I walked into jazz band yesterday and immediately, disregarding the fact that I was wearing a miniskirt, dove under the vibes (flashing about half the band in the process) because Mikey the equipment manager had promised me they'd be fixed, and they were! The pedal mechanism had been replaced! But I couldn't get it to hook right (I still can't and no one can figure out why not, since other people can), so I got out from under the vibes and stood around looking cute and helpless and female (mostly female) until the entire trombone section came bounding over to see if they could help, which they could, and then Mr. Allen passed out the Batman theme!

I am so playing a solo on that. I don't care if I have to beat up the entire trombone section. Even after they helped me get the vibes put back together. The solo is mine.

And there was Spanish, where we read a story with elaborate hand gestures (for some reason no one I know seems to be capable of completing a sentence without at least one elaborate hand gesture) and had no clue at all what it was about, except that there was a horse in the house - WHY was it in the house? - and the man cut off its head. (He did not, however, put it in someone's bed. Sorry.) And there was math, where Jesus!Stephanie and I had way more fun than is probably healthy and shrieked with giggles and tried to create elaborate palindromes using the word "banana," in the style of the classic, "No, sir, away! A papaya war is on!" (The best I was able to come up with was, "Da banana is raw! Wars, Ian, Ana - bad!" If you can figure out something better, please let me know.) And then I checked out a novel about a huge shark from the library. (I read Jaws earlier this summer. It was an insanely trashy book and I loved it.) It's called Meg (short for Megalodon, the species name of this prehistoric shark, the 60-foot-long ancestor of the great white, which the scientist in the novel theorizes could survive in the depths of the Mariana Trench, the deepest place on Earth) and it's pretty good.

I am exhausted and I hardly got any good quotes today. There wasn't even anything good in ToK about the underrated dolphin. I guess I'll go to sleep and see if tomorrow is funnier.
