My mom just came into the room and said:

"Is there some reason why the eagles couldn't just have carried Frodo the whole way? Like, from the beginning?"

"... ... ...What?"

"The eagles. Because all that climbing up mountains and running out of food and stuff..."

There is no answer to that kind of question. Augh. I'm definitely not lending her my copy of the book now.

Dammit, now I can't stop thinking about that. Why didn't they just have the eagles... rrgh. Rrrgh.

I don't know. If I was either Sauron or Sarumon, I would think that seeing a couple of hobbit-carrying giant eagles flying across my borders would seem kinda suspicious. Granted, that one eagle was able to rescue Gandalf and all, but the point still remains; not a lot of places to hide a hundred feet in the air.

Besides, the eagles seem a lot more useful for getting people out of places than into them.

Deep down, they're just drama queens that would rather show up at the last minute than actually do anything to help.
